An op-ed that appeared in Newsday about new bills that would consider elderly and low-risk prisoners for early release.

The opioid epidemic is changing how some working within the criminal justice system view addiction and drug related crimes. I spoke with NPR about the epidemic.

Garcia said the main problem is that when people are denied medical marijuana they are more likely to use opioids. “So I don’t think that there needs to be a legislative change, I think we just all need to be on the same page if we’re intereste
